The Bottle List: Thiriez

Most beer lovers in Ontario know about our Witchshark, Wizard Wolf, or Hellwoods. Many of our patrons love the strangely addictive duck hearts with charred jalapeño oil on our menu. But one of the lesser-known aspects of the brewpub is our bottled beer list -- and it's amaze-balls.

We're definitely guilty of having Bellwoods beer on the brain (not in the brain) 24/7, but we do our best to acquire some really nice bottles outside of what we brew ourselves, (these ones are thanks to our friends at Keep 6 Imports). Though it varies with demand, we've got great stuff from Belgium, Quebec, and even Italy, that range from classic trappist brews to experimental sours. Most recently we brought in a range of styles from Brasserie Thiriez in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais région of France (very close to the Belgian border).

We first learned of Brasserie Thiriez when we realized that their light and floral Belgian table beer La Petite Princesse (a collaboration with Jester King Brewery of Austin, Texas) was 2nd on the top rated "Low Alcohol" beer list on Ratebeer (Stay Classy is 6th!).

In addition to the award-winning La Petite Princesse, we've also brought in Dalva (Double IPA), Étoile du Nord (Belgian Pale Ale brewed in collaboration with Swale Brewery in the UK), L’Ambrée d’Esquelbecq (an amber Bière de Garde), and La Blonde d'Esquelbecq (a bottle-conditioned Belgian Blonde).

So the next time you're here at the brewpub, have a pint of your beloved Bellwoods beer and then try a unique bottle of this delicious beer. I'm tempted to sign off with something emphatic in French like, "C'est magnifique!" but that's just a bit too much. Non?

Sorry, I'm actually gonna stop now. Sérieusement.
